On December 7th in Fremantle, Perth's Axe Girl will launch a tour to support their new single, "Give Me Your Tee Shirt." Today, singer/guitarist Addison Axe is spending Seven Questions In Heaven with us.
Describe your music for our readers who may not be familiar with you.
I guess it's kinda pop-punk with summery-beach-vibes!
Who are your musical influences and idols?
PJ Harvey, No Doubt, The Police, The Kooks, David Bowie, The Beatles, Ani DiFranco, Queen, Blur, The Distillers, Nirvana, Madonna. They're some of the bands and artists that I was most obsessional about when growing up and figuring out how to play guitar and sing.
What was the first album, cassette, or CD you bought with your own money?
Aerosmith's "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)" in '97. I heard it on the radio and begged my mum to take me to a record store and I had to sing it to the guys behind the counter because I didn't know what it was and I spent all my pocket money on the cassette single.
What was the strangest gig you've ever played?
Aireys Inlet Open Mic Festival. We had to drive a long way, it was very wet, cold and windy. There were about 5 people in the tent and the sound guy kept telling Brett to turn his drums down (which fyi is not actually possible), so we played the quietest most vibe-less show ever. It was super uncomfortable.
What's the first thing you look for when you hit a new town?
A cool pub with cheap beer. Or if there's like a whole day and it's a big town, an art gallery. They're often free, feel safe and familiar, and can absorb you for hours and hours in a peaceful and inspiring way.
If they named an ice cream flavor after you, what would be the name and why?
Axelicious, because my name is Axe and it would be delicious. I'd like it to be banana choc chip flavour with Fairy Floss on the top and be served in a carved out Halloween face pumpkin surrounded by a cloud of dry ice.
But wait, that's if I named the ice cream flavor. Who are they? They sound kinda creepy.
Final question: You're the opening act of a music festival. You can get any five artists, living or dead, to perform on the bill with you. Which five do you choose and what song do you all perform as the final jam?
Janice Joplin, No Doubt, Sister Sledge, Juliette And The Licks, Skunk Anansie. How would we jam with that many people? We'd jam out "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
