Describe your music for our readers who may not be familiar with you.
Happy music for everybody.
Who are your musical influences and idols?
Beyonce is an idol! We admire lots of Australian bands like Tame Impala, Ball Park Music, Last Dinosaurs, and heaps of others, so we're probably influenced by those bands from liking them so much.
What was the first album, cassette, or CD you bought with your own money?
First CD was Aqua, "Doctor Jones" single. First album was Aquarius by Aqua. First cassette was Celine Dion. The CD was available but I had to budget and the tape was cheaper.
You've been making a name for yourselves over the last year without any backing label or management. What does such whirlwind success feel like and what advice would you give yourself starting out 12 months ago? Off the back of that, how important or relevant do you think management and a backing label are these days to an up-and-coming band?
It feels weird! I would tell us to choose the people we work with really carefully and make sure we're 100% happy with every decision being made. We've been fortunate enough to pretty much do that anyway so it's been a good year!
I think that having a label and management can make it a bit easier to break into the industry. Managers are managers because they're clever/strategic, organised and well-connected which can help a band get where they need to be, faster. We've been lucky enough to have lots of really good people around us who have helped guide us so far!
The youth station triple j is a music industry taste maker in Australia. Describe the moment you first heard the station play your music. Was that a moment when you thought you'd really made it?
When Richard Kingsmill played "Evie" at the end of 2011 I couldn't believe it. Being played on triple j (even if it was just once) was such a huge goal for us, then we got added to high rotation and it was just ridiculous.
What is the main goal of the US release? Do you aspire to mega-fame?
We want to be able to play shows there and have people turn up. If we reached mega-fame, that would be pretty cool.
You're the opening act of a music festival. You can get any five artists, living or dead, to perform on the bill with you. Which five do you choose and what song do you all perform as the final jam?
Beyonce, The Kinks, Aaliyah, Jeff Buckley, and Aqua.
