There are moments when science preserves magic and this is one of them. As part of a new show that National Geographic Channel is launching this Fall called How Hard Can it Be?, their team of scientists, engineers, and balloon pilots recreated the flying house from the Disney/Pixar movie Up utilizing a 16 x 16 foot house and 300 balloons.
Per the Inside NGC blog, "Setting a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted, the entire aircraft from top to bottom was a whopping 10-stories high, made it to an alititude of 10,000 feet, and flew for about an hour."
My inner child is positively giddy. Check out this partial footage from the show.
Brilliant, scientists. Brilliant.
