Your New Favorite Site: Liz's 1001 Albums

Liz, a twenty-something Californian, wanted to get out of her musical rut, so she's listening her way through Robert Dimery's 1001 Albums You Must Listen to Before You Die. This is no small task for even your average music nerd, let alone someone who, according to her website, knows "nothing about music." She claims to have a whopping sixty-seven songs on her iPod, mostly boy bands and American Idol performances. It's a big enough leap from Adam Lambert to Pere Ubu and Lou Reed, not to mention some of the more obscure jazz and world albums that featured in the book, and I commend her for that. What I love about this site, though, is her limited references actually give her a fresh perspective unlike your typical jaded rock critic. Sometimes it's a little frustrating hearing Nick Drake's Pink Moon compared to Dave Matthews, but the result is overwhelmingly charming.
