I'm not ashamed to proclaim to the world that I am, in fact, a big geek girl. I have t-shirts with obscure '80s references. I love old school 8-bit video games. I've been known to hum the Tertris theme while working in the stockroom. (Don't judge.) I also love Edgar Wright, the genius director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. So I've been kind of stoked by the trailers for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I saw the flick and it definitely lived up to my geek girl expectations.
I'm pretty sure Michael Cera was born for this role. Well, George Michael Bluth and this role. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers) is as cute as a button. And the supporting cast is flat out hilarious. (Kieran Culkin grew up to be AWESOME. Who knew?) Without spoiling anything, I've never been a huge Brandon Routh (AKA Superman) fan but I'm pretty sure he was just about my most favorite thing in this. Oh and Jason Schwartzman can kinda kick some ass. Who knew?
Throughout the film are tons of homages to 8-bit 1980s video games. If you're a big geek like me you will recognize that some of the background music is from the original Legend of Zelda game. Lots of game sound effects from Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros. and the like.
If you thought the trailer looked fun or are an '80s video game geek, you should definitely check out the film.
If you're jonesing for more Scott Pilgrim action, it is based on a graphic novel series so you might wanna check that out. There's a new iPhone/iPad game for free on iTunes.
And because I think it's funny, Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman were in Atlanta and did the morning weather. I assume they were there to somehow promote the film? Doesn't matter. It's funny.
